The bulk of the Genetics Laboratory work occurs in the departments of the four subsections: Brain; Biochemistry; Creature; and Body. Here genornicists work to map the various elements of the Norn genome. Each department has developed a short information sheet for their particular gene subtype, which contains the following sections of information:

Gene Sequence

The 'Gene Sequence' for each gene lists what is known so far about what each byte (two-digit hexadecimal number) represents. Abbreviations are used to represent the different parts of the structure, and are linked to more detailed descriptions in the Notes section, when possible. A lot of the information is preliminary. Thus there will be unknown elements, and some elements initially identified as one thing will later be determined to represent something else.

Changes between Creatures 1 and Creatures 2 sequences will be highlighted.

Notes

'Notes' provide more detailed descriptions of the different parts of the genome (as noted in the Gene Sequence), along with 'general observations.' Comments from outside researchers will be quoted in this section as applicable.

Example(s)

Some subtypes will provide examples of genes of that type, if enough is known about the structure.

In addition, the Genetics Laboratory maintains data on the gene header sequence. Related reference documents, including the gene lists, are available from the Resource Center.
